Wireless IP video transmission

Reduce time and cost with wireless IP video transmission

Many CCTV projects these days require camera installations in locations where running cables is not desirable due to a range of factors:

  • Heritage listed buildings, meaning no visible conduit or modification to the building is allowed.
  • Multi-tenanted buildings where strata approval for work is required on common property.
  • Physically running the cable could be too expensive (e.g. digging trenches or mount poles for wires).
  • Connect multiple buildings together that are further than the maximum run length of available cable technologies.
  • In these cases, utilising wireless transmission can significantly reduce time and expense. Of course, wireless transmission is not a silver bullet. There is always the risk that a wireless signal is susceptible to jamming, which may exclude it’s use in high risk installations. Analogue video transmissions were easily jammed and not encrypted so anyone with the right receiver could view the feed. Wireless IP transmission resolves these issues and not only can it transmit CCTV video feeds safely but can also connect whole network systems together. These products, such as the Ubiquiti range, are built on well tested, highly reliable technology.

Maximum performance.

Incorporating a dish reflector design with proprietary technology, the PowerBeam is ideal for CPE deployments requiring maximum performance. Ubiquiti’s technology integrates the radio into the feedhorn of an antenna, so there is no need for cables to connect the radio to the antenna - ultimately improving performance as cable losses are eliminated. It offers improved latency, noise immunity, scalability and significantly increased throughput performance.

Lightweight broadband.

The LiteBeam is the latest evolution of a lightweight and compact outdoor wireless broadband product from Ubiquiti Networks. The combination of proprietary hardware and software technologies delivers a cost/performance solution for long-distance, wireless broadband bridging. It operates in the world-wide, license-free 5 GHz frequency range with high-performance speeds and delivers superior performance in reduced latency, throughput and scalability.

Unlimited scalability.

The Ubiquiti UniFi AC LR AP offers simultaneous, dual-band operation with 3x3 MIMO in the 2.4 GHz band and 2x2 MIMO in the 5 GHz band. The innovative antenna design provides a long-range (183m), symmetrical-link coverage area, and the antenna gain of the UniFi AC LR AP performs better than one-way, high transmit power does for connecting distant clients. The UniFi controller allows the operator to instantly provision thousands of UniFi APs, map out networks, quickly manage system traffic, and further provision individual Unifi AP devices.

Ubiquiti PowerBeam AC Antenna

The PowerBeam ac directs RF energy in a tighter beamwidth. With the focus in one direction, the PowerBeam ac blocks or spatially filters out noise, so noise immunity is improved. This feature is especially important in an area crowded with other RF signals of the same or similar frequency.

The PowerBeam mounted outdoors with the Dish Reflector installed provides directional outdoor coverage.

The PowerBeam mounted outdoors without the Dish Reflector installed provides outdoor-to-indoor coverage using the 3 dBi Antenna Feed only.

Ubiquiti LiteBeam Wireless Access Point

The Ubiquiti 5.8GHz LiteBeam has an adjustable three-axis mounting. When combined with the 120º coverage area, installation becomes a breeze. The single wireless link can handle multiple camera streams, limited only by the bandwidth provided by the wireless link. The 120° Wireless Access Point is capable of transmission over multiple-kilometre distances. In a small building, with clear line of sight, the unit is capable of handling multiple VIP Vision Ultimate series cameras at the highest bit-rate.

Functional single camera layout

A single camera can be connected directly to the remote access point (as above).

Functional multiple camera layout

Supporting multiple cameras at the remote site is also very simple. Utilising a VIP Vision 8-port 10/100 Max PoE+ Switch will allow multiple cameras to share the wireless link, while still only requiring two power points.

Ubiquiti Unify Long Range

Unlike traditional enterprise Wi-Fi systems that use a hardware controller, UniFi comes bundled with a non-dedicated software controller that can be deployed on an on-site PC, Mac, or Linux machine; in a private cloud; or using a public cloud service.

With the UniFi Controller software running in a NOC or in the cloud, administrators can manage multiple sites: multiple, distributed deployments and multi-tenancy for managed service providers.
