Professional installs with rackmount cabinets

Published 2016-10-05

Use a Data Cabinet in your next CCTV installation and deliver a truly professional looking system.

Prolong hardware life and increase client satisfaction by storing server networks and CCTV recorders in a clean and secure environment. They also make maintenance and replacements a much easier task.

Before choosing a data cabinet for your next installation, here is a brief explanation of the standard unit of measure for data cabinets and their contents.

A Rack Unit (U or RU) is a unit of measure defined as 1.75 inches (44.45 mm) and is based on a standard rack specification as defined in EIA-310 (Electronic Industries Association). It is used as a standard unit of height for rack frames and the equipment that is to be mounted in them.

A typical full-size rack cage is 42U high (1.8m), while equipment is typically 1U, 2U, 3U, or 4U high.

Horizontal pitch (HP) is a unit of length used to measure the horizontal width of rack mounted electronic equipment. One HP is 0.2 inches (5.08 mm) wide. A standard 19-inch rack is 95 HP wide. A standard 23-inch rack is 115 HP wide.

The mounting-hole distance differs for 19-inch racks and 23-inch racks: The 19-inch racks uses uneven spacings (as shown to the right) while the 23-inch racks uses evenly spaced mounting holes.

For example the VIP Vision NVR64ULTNP high performance, high capacity 64 channel network video recorder, is 3U high and 105HP wide so would require a standard 115HP wide rack.

We have a range of rackmountable switches that work perfectly with IP surveillance systems ~ the most common size being 87HP wide. These switches improve the availability of your critical business applications, protect your sensitive information, and optimize your network bandwidth to enable a more productive, effective workplace.

The width and height of a rack mount is most often standard, however the depth of a rack mount may change.

See the variance of depth in rack mount server sizes in this table.

Our Data Cabinet range lists all depth dimensions within the product specifications for your convenience.
