Security Licencing for Installers in Queensland
Security Firm Licence
An installer in Queensland must hold a Security Firm Licence if they:
- Offer security products or services
- Receive payment for providing security services, even if you subcontract the activity to others
- Supply staff to perform security services
In order to be eligble for a Security Firm Licence , an installer must be a member of an Approved Industry Association. In Queensland, an installer identifies with a Class 2 licence, as it is classified by an individual or business who services include:
- Providing security advice
- Installing security equipment
Security Provider Licence
An installer who is an employee of a security firm is required to hold a Security Provider Licence. An applicant must ensure that they have completed the relevant training and meet the critera before applying for a licence. As an installer, the Security Provider Licence is issued under the Technical class, as it includes employees who:
- Provides security advice
- Installs security equipment
Cost of Security Licences
Purchasing a Security Licence holds additional fees. This includes a mandatory criminal history check and the taking of fingerprints. A Class 2 Security Firm Licence costs $872.10 for a year, and $1749 for three. For a Class 2 Security Provider Licence, an applicant can apply for a Single Function or Multiple Function licence. A Single Function licence costs $177.90 for one year, and $344.30 for three. A Mulitple Function licence costs $212.30 for one year, and $441.80 for three.
