RhinoCo Technology - NSW Incentive Program for Solar Batteries

Starting from November 1, 2024, the New South Wales government is rolling out a incentive program to encourage the adoption of solar battery systems. For installers, this presents a valuable opportunity to expand services and offer clients significant financial benefits for integrating solar battery systems.

Here's a detailed breakdown of the incentives available:

For Homes and Businesses with Existing Solar Panels: Your clients who already have solar panels but no battery system can benefit from an upfront discount of between $1600 to $2400 on the installation costs of a new battery. The exact discount depends on the battery size, providing flexibility based on their energy needs.
For Homes and Businesses with an Existing Battery: Your customers can take advantage of $250 to $400 for connecting their household or business battery to a Virtual Power Plant (VPP). This incentive is available twice, a minimum of 3 years apart.

VPPs and the Goal of the Incentive

A Virtual Power Plant (VPP) is a network of interconnected batteries that collectively provide energy to the grid during peak demand times. By connecting a client’s battery to a VPP, you help them stabilize the grid and potentially earn additional income. The goal of the NSW government in this scheme is to reduce load on the grid by connecting more batteries to these VPPs

The update page from NSW states: "These incentives will help homes and businesses maximise the use of the solar energy they generate and cut the cost of electricity bills. Installing more batteries across NSW will help make the grid more reliable and stable while also reducing our reliance on fossil fuels during periods of peak demand. This will help reduce NSW’s emissions by 70% by 2035 and achieve net zero by 2050."
